Service Description
A podiatrist is a qualified practitioner who specializes in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of foot problems related to the structure and function of the feet and lower limbs in people of any age
Where possible, podiatrists promote footcare independence. In these instances you will be provided with expert education and advice about how to manage your own footcare.
Services Offered
Foot-health education.
Expert foot care for people with specific medical conditions that can lead to foot problems.
Assessment or circulation and nerve function within the foot.
Assessment and management of nail and skin problems.
Prescription of corrective orthoses / pressure relieving insoles.
What to expect on your first visit
Your podiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your feet at the first appointment. This may include:
Asking about your medical history and medications.
Visual inspection of your feet and legs.
Assessment of the blood flow of your feet.
Assessment of your footwear.
Your podiatrist will use this information to devise a foot health plan. This may include education to you and your carer, self management techniques, appropriate referral or advice about further appointments with the service
Eligibility
A referral from a medical practitioner, hospital or allied health professional is necessary for clients to receive podiatry services.
The podiatry service is available to residents of the BBCHS catchment area , who hold a current Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card. This service is unable to provide services to people who hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card. DVA clients are referred to outside providers.
Fees
Individual treatment $8.50 per session for health care card and pension concession card holders. Consumable items such as ulcer dressings may incur a cost. Additional charges apply for orthotic therapy and surgical consultations.
Hours
Opening hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
